What is Ascophyllum Nodosum?
A large brown seaweed also known as knotted wrack, found on rocky shores of the North Atlantic.
Why is it used in products?
It's prized for its rich mineral profile and antioxidant polyphenols, making it a popular anti-aging and skin-firming ingredient.
Why does it clog pores?
This brown seaweed is exceptionally high in iodine, which is known to exacerbate acne by irritating the follicular epithelium. Its polysaccharides also form an occlusive layer that can trap sebum. If you're acne-prone, iodine-rich seaweeds like this are best avoided.
