What is Bismuth Oxychloride?
A synthetic mineral compound that creates a pearlescent, shimmery finish in cosmetics, with a crystal structure similar to talc.
Why is it used in products?
It gives mineral makeup its silky, luminous appearance and smooth application — it's the reason mineral foundation has that signature glow.
Why does it clog pores?
Bismuth oxychloride has a flat, plate-like crystal structure that lies flat over pore openings and physically blocks them. It's also an irritant that causes itching and inflammation in many users, which worsens breakouts. The particles are nearly impossible to fully remove from pores with regular cleansing.
