What is Bladderwack?
A type of brown seaweed (Fucus vesiculosus) recognized by its paired air bladders, commonly found along Northern Atlantic coastlines.
Why is it used in products?
It's a traditional skincare ingredient valued for its high mineral content, especially iodine, and its anti-inflammatory and skin-firming properties.
Why does it clog pores?
Bladderwrack is one of the highest-iodine seaweeds used in cosmetics, and iodides are a well-documented acne trigger. The extract creates a sticky polysaccharide layer that blocks pore openings. Combined with its iodine content, this makes it a serious concern for acne-prone skin.
