What is Cocoa Butter?
A rich, solid fat extracted from cacao beans, composed primarily of stearic, oleic, and palmitic fatty acids.
Why is it used in products?
It's an incredibly moisturizing emollient that melts at body temperature and gives products a luxurious, creamy texture.
Why does it clog pores?
Cocoa butter rates a 4 out of 5 on comedogenicity scales. Its dense, waxy consistency forms a thick occlusive barrier that seals pores shut and traps sebum, dead cells, and bacteria underneath. It's very slow to absorb, meaning it sits on the surface of skin and blocks follicular openings for hours.
