What is Dioctyl Succinate?
A diester of 2-ethylhexyl alcohol and succinic acid, used as a lightweight emollient and skin-conditioning agent.
Why is it used in products?
It acts as a mild plasticizer and emollient, giving products a smooth, non-tacky finish.
Why does it clog pores?
Dioctyl succinate has been identified as comedogenic in dermatological studies. Its molecular structure allows it to penetrate into the follicular opening and create a lipid layer that impedes sebum flow. Over time this leads to the buildup of plugs within pores.
