A synthetic ester of 2-ethylhexanol and palmitic acid, widely used as a lightweight emollient and texture enhancer.

Why is it used in products?

It gives products a silky, dry-touch feel and is often used as a less-greasy alternative to heavier oils in cosmetic formulations.

Why does it clog pores?

Ethylhexyl palmitate is one of the most commonly comedogenic esters in cosmetics. Its branched molecular structure lets it slip into follicles where it forms a plug that blocks sebum flow. It's rated moderately to highly comedogenic and is found in an enormous number of everyday skincare and makeup products.
