Evening Primrose Oil
Also known as: Oenothera Biennis Oil, EPO
What is Evening Primrose Oil?
An oil extracted from the seeds of Oenothera biennis, exceptionally high in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 fatty acid.
Why is it used in products?
It's marketed for its anti-inflammatory GLA content and is popular in products targeting eczema, hormonal skin issues, and dryness.
Why does it clog pores?
Despite its beneficial GLA content, evening primrose oil is moderately comedogenic due to its overall lipid profile. It can form an occlusive film on skin that traps sebum and dead cells in follicles. For acne-prone skin, the pore-clogging risk often outweighs the anti-inflammatory benefits.
