A lipophilic emulsifier made from glycerin and two isostearic acid chains, used to create water-in-oil emulsions.
Why is it used in products?
It produces rich, stable water-in-oil creams and is valued for its strong emollient properties and moisture-locking ability.
Why does it clog pores?
Glyceryl 3-Diisostearate is highly comedogenic due to its heavy, lipid-rich molecular structure. It forms a thick occlusive layer that seals pores and prevents sebum from draining. The isostearic acid chains are particularly problematic because they resist breakdown and persist on the skin surface.
