What is Isocetyl Alcohol?
A branched-chain fatty alcohol derived from cetyl alcohol, used as an emollient and emulsion stabilizer.
Why is it used in products?
It provides moisturization and helps thicken and stabilize emulsions without the waxy feel of straight-chain fatty alcohols.
Why does it clog pores?
Isocetyl alcohol has a moderately comedogenic rating due to its ability to form an occlusive film over pore openings. Its branched-chain structure makes it harder for the skin to break down, so it accumulates in and around follicles. This leads to gradual pore congestion over time.
