What is Lithothamnium Calcareum?
A calcified red algae that forms limestone-like deposits on the sea floor, harvested for its exceptionally high calcium and mineral content.
Why is it used in products?
It's used as a natural mineral source and gentle exfoliant, adding calcium, magnesium, and trace minerals to formulations.
Why does it clog pores?
The calcium carbonate particles from this algae can physically block pores and cause micro-abrasions that lead to inflammation. Its mineral-dense residue sits on the skin surface and impedes sebum flow. For acne-prone skin, the combination of physical occlusion and mineral irritation can trigger breakouts.
