What is Marine Algae?
A catch-all term for any algae harvested from the ocean, encompassing green, brown, and red seaweed species.
Why is it used in products?
It's a ubiquitous ingredient in hydrating and anti-aging skincare, prized for marine minerals, antioxidants, and polysaccharides.
Why does it clog pores?
"Marine algae" on a label could mean any number of iodide-rich, film-forming seaweed species. Most marine algae form occlusive polysaccharide layers that trap sebum in pores. The vague labeling makes it impossible to know exactly which species you're getting, so it's safest to avoid it entirely if you're acne-prone.
