Why is it used in products?
It's used as a natural carrageenan source, providing thickening, gelling, and moisturizing properties to formulations.
Why does it clog pores?
As a carrageenan-producing seaweed, Mastocarpus Stellatus delivers the same pore-clogging sulfated polysaccharides as Irish moss. These form an occlusive gel that blocks sebum drainage from follicles. Its iodide content adds further irritation to already congested pores.
