What is Myreth 3 Myristate?

A polyethylene glycol ether ester combining myristyl alcohol, 3 moles of ethylene oxide, and myristic acid.

Why is it used in products?

It functions as a lightweight emollient with emulsifying properties, giving products a smooth, non-greasy feel.

Why does it clog pores?

The myristic acid component of this ester is inherently comedogenic, and the ethoxylated structure helps it adhere to skin and penetrate into pore openings. It forms a lipid film inside follicles that blocks sebum drainage. The combination of comedogenic fatty acid and skin-adhering ether makes this a potent pore-clogger.
