What is Octyl Stearate?
A synthetic ester of 2-ethylhexanol and stearic acid, used as an emollient and viscosity-controlling agent.
Why is it used in products?
It provides a smooth, moisturizing feel without greasiness and helps control the thickness of liquid formulations.
Why does it clog pores?
Octyl stearate creates a lipid barrier over pore openings that traps sebum and dead cells inside the follicle. Its molecular size is ideal for lodging in the narrow opening of a pore. Over time, this accumulation leads to comedone formation, especially when worn for extended periods in makeup.
