Palmaria Palmate
Also known as: Dulse
What is Palmaria Palmate?
A reddish-purple edible seaweed from the North Atlantic, one of the most protein-rich sea vegetables available.
Why is it used in products?
It's used for its high protein and amino acid content, offering skin-conditioning and anti-aging benefits.
Why does it clog pores?
Palmaria Palmate's proteins and polysaccharides form a residue on skin that blocks pore openings. As a red algae, it carries iodides and sulfated compounds that irritate the follicular wall. The protein film it creates is especially problematic because it acts like a pore-sealing glue.
