Why is it used in products?
It helps oil and water phases blend smoothly and contributes a creamy, moisturizing feel to lotions and creams.
Why does it clog pores?
PG monostearate forms a stearic acid-based film on skin that occludes pore openings. The propylene glycol component enhances the penetration of this film into the follicular opening. This means it doesn't just sit on top of pores — it actively gets pushed inside them, worsening the comedogenic effect.
