What is Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate?

A polyglycerol ester made from polyglycerin-3 and isostearic acid, used as a water-in-oil emulsifier.

Why is it used in products?

It creates stable, rich emulsions and is popular in makeup formulations for its pigment-wetting and suspending abilities.

Why does it clog pores?

This emulsifier deposits a heavy lipid layer on the skin that blocks pore openings and prevents normal sebum drainage. Its isostearic acid chains form a persistent film that resists cleansing. It rates as highly comedogenic and is especially problematic in foundation and concealer formulations worn for extended hours.
