What is Seaweed?
A broad term for any macroscopic marine algae, covering thousands of species across green, brown, and red varieties.
Why is it used in products?
It's one of the trendiest skincare ingredients, used for hydration, minerals, antioxidants, and "ocean-powered" marketing appeal.
Why does it clog pores?
"Seaweed" on a label is a red flag for acne-prone skin because it could be any number of iodide-rich, film-forming species. Nearly all seaweed produces polysaccharides that create an occlusive layer blocking pores. The iodide content across most species is high enough to trigger follicular inflammation and breakouts.
