What is Xylene?
A petrochemical aromatic hydrocarbon solvent used in industrial applications and occasionally in cosmetics as a solvent.
Why is it used in products?
It's a powerful solvent that dissolves resins and other hard-to-dissolve ingredients in specialty formulations like nail polish.
Why does it clog pores?
Xylene is a harsh chemical that strips the skin barrier and causes significant irritation to follicular walls. This damage triggers reactive hyperkeratinization (excess dead cell production) inside pores, leading to blockages. It also disrupts the lipid balance of the skin, making pores more vulnerable to clogging from other ingredients.
